The time it takes to put on your socks cannot be negotiated. It takes as long as it takes. Sometimes one must put on the socks twice if an error has been made.

The shoes must be fastened, no faster than the fasteners require.

The buckled shoes of my childhood are very hard to come by now.

The majority of children’s buckles are faux. They are the appearance of a buckle with velcro underneath. To say nothing of the children’s lack of hand strength, we are robbing the child of the frustration of the buckle. They owe themselves that time, as we avoid the pain of the buckle frustration, they don’t get what we got.
